I've had a couple of ticks latch onto my dog lately, and I'm not sure how to remove them safely. What methods do you all use? Any tools or tricks I should know about?

I keep a little tick tool on my keychain that slides under the head and pops them out clean. Best thing I have found. Back in the day I used matches and Vaseline, but that just made them burrow deeper. With dogs, I run my hands over them every night after a walk and pull any I find right away.

I've tried all kinds of methods, burning with a cigarette or match, Vaseline, nail polish, etc. I'm convinced the best way is to grab hold and just pull gently and steadily. I do have several of those tools, but they never seem to be around when I need them. I'm impatient, so I just pull them out gently and wash the bite are with soap or alcohol.

Last summer, my dog got a few ticks after a hike. The best method I found was using fine-tip tweezers. I grabbed the tick close to his skin and pulled straight out slowly, there was no twisting. Afterward, I cleaned the bite area. I'd tried those tick tools before, but tweezers worked better, now I always keep a pair in my truck
