Switched from ball powder to extruded powder for rifle reloads

Ball powder meters easily and it is consistent through a measure. Extruded powder takes more effort and I have to weigh each charge. For precision rifle work though, I kept getting better results with the extruded loads. It takes more time but when you are stretching distance, the extra effort is worth it.

That tracks, a lot of people trade a bit of convenience for consistency once groups at distance start opening up.

  I stuck with ball ammo for the sheer convenience of it until I started trying to push out to longer distances. Then I made the switch and saw exactly what you're talking about. A slower process, maybe but the results were definitely better.

I found Varget outperformed TAC in my bolt gun loads. Metering extruded powder isn’t great but the consistency out at distance made me stick with it.

Ball powder is great for speed and volume but extruded tends to give more consistency shot-to-shot, especially once you’re chasing tighter groups at distance. The extra time on the scale usually pays off downrange.

Weighing individual powder charges is tedious until your groups tighten up at longer distances. Then it stops feeling like extra work real quick.
