I carry handguns for self-defense and target practice, along with a hunting shotgun and rifles that I've registered with the state police. I make it to the local ranges when I can afford it, and I sometimes drive to Wisconsin where things are a bit more reasonable. It seems like hunters and shooters in Illinois are becoming a rare breed, especially around here with Chicago's impact.

Welcome aboard! It’s always a pleasure to greet new members in our community. We hope you find everything you’re after!

You are not kidding with us becoming a rare breed in these parts. I’m in the NW suburbs and don’t see nearly the traffic around ranges as I did 10 years ago. And I see more orange through the year not during deer season than I do during so those getting out for the hunt has dwindled greatly. We all have to just keep trying to impart the hobby, art and craft on the next generation and hope it isn’t lost to the ages and legislation.

Where in IL are you located? I'm in the Libertyville area and do most of my shooting at Bristol in WI. A crew goes up every Tuesday morning, meeting between 7:00 and 7:30 (or a little later), cleaning, removing old targets, patching frames and target backer boards, and then shooting from 9:00 AM to 10:00d AM. Do that as a regular and your membership is free.
