I'm thinking about putting a red dot on my G19 Gen 3, so I definitely need to get the slide milled. What’s the best red dot out there? Also, should I go for a cut that’s made for a specific red dot or one that can fit a few different options?

I’ve been using the Trijicon RMR Type 2, and it’s been seriously dependable. I've really put it through its paces from range days to classes, and even some soggy outings, it’s never lost zero or had a flicker. It’s got the toughness I was looking for in a carry setup. But I’ve also had my hands on a Holosun 507C X2 for another build, and it’s awesome too. If you’re into the multi-reticle system and want great value for your money, it’s definitely worth considering!

When it comes to the slide cut, I'd really suggest going with a specific footprint like the RMR instead of a universal one. Trust me, I've been there and learned the hard way. I tried a multi-footprint cut once, and that adapter plate just added extra height and made everything feel a bit wobbly. A direct-milled RMR cut keeps things nice and low-profile, and it feels rock solid.

Since you’re taking the time to mill, I’d advise adding suppressor-height sights for co-witnessing. It’s more than just a backup, it really aids in dot acquisition, especially when you’re first adapting to shooting with an optic.
