I’ve just started getting into firearms and honestly, I’m still hooked. I've been reading into safety tips and training resources. What really helped you find your confidence when you were starting out?

Find someone in your area who is proficient with firearms and have them coach you. Don't try to learn by yourself if you're inexperienced. Not only may it be unsafe but you may also develop habits that aren't conducive to accurate marksmanship.

Thiokol is right. Get instruction. I would suggest talking to the NRA or the Illinois State Rifle Association first. Go to a certified instructor. Avoid your brother in law’s friend who owns a gun and shoots every now and then.

When I first got started, my confidence really came from nailing the basics. I focused on developing solid safety habits, practicing dry-firing at home, and spending time at the range with some awesome people who were more than willing to share their knowledge. Seriously, don't hesitate to ask questions! This community is filled with folks who totally remember what it felt like to be a newbie and are more than happy to lend a hand.
