At first I was getting a daily update email showing me the threads that were being discussed. Lately..... nothing.

OK, I'll bring up a topic. I have a question regarding our Illinois gun laws. We used to be able to sell firearms to one another on our own FTF (assuming neither party is an FFL). Then there was the ISP phone in, which wasn't terrible. And as I understand it now, we have to go through an FFL? I was in GAT Guns a while back and two guys came in to transfer a gun between them and I think they paid $50. So is it true we can't easily sell firearms to each other without going through an FFL?

You are correct. It is no longer as simple as verification of the buyer's FOID through the ISP Portal.
Someone once confided in me that should someone want to sell a firearm that they've had for more than 10 years to a friend, they could be all "hush-hush" and do neither an FFL transfer or a bill of sale. There would be no way to verify that the sale didn't happen more than 10 years ago.
Not promoting anything, just an observation.

Agreed. Perhaps part of the problem lays in this being Illinois. I'm old enough to have watched this state go from a vibrant society that readily accepted shooters to one where vibrants has been replaced with complacency and shooters talk in hushed whispers to avoid being noticed. No one wants to risk attracting the notice of an overly zealous policeman or a leftist politician who "knows" that everyone who enjoys shooting is a right wing nut job and must be eliminated. I do not believe there is a "Gun Culture", but rather that guns are part of American culture. Everywhere, that is, except Illinois where shooters are starting to live in a near shadow world where they are afraid to speak or be seen. This might be the reason this forum is dying.
