Hope everyone's having a good time here!

I'd love to know, what’s one hunting mistake you’ll always remember? Maybe it was that moment your scope went busted, or you realized the boots you wore were totally wrong, or perhaps you spooked the game way too soon. I’d love to hear your stories. Let’s swap some lessons and have a good laugh along the way!

It was opening day of deer season, and I was really excited. I found this perfect spot overlooking the edge of a field where I'd spotted does throughout the preseason. I got there early, climbed into my stand, and settled in as the sun was just starting to peek up. About 45 mins after sunrise, I noticed a group of does coming out into the field, and right behind them was a nice buck. As they got to about 150 yards away, I went to grab my rangefinder... only to realize it wasn’t in my pocket. I started to panic and checked for my grunt call... and, of course, that was missing too. I had worn a different pair of hunting pants that day and left all my gear in my other ones at home.

Feeling frustrated, I had to guess the distance instead. In the end, I decided to pass on the shot because I just didn’t feel confident. Those does and that buck just kept feeding, and there I was, sitting in my stand, kicking myself for not being better prepared.

I was grouse and woodcock hunting up north just last week. A little woodcock flushed on the trail in front of me and flew straight away (they never do that). I snapped my Red Label to my shoulder for the easy shot, pulled the trigger, nothing. Pulled again, nothing. Looked down at the gun and realized I failed to flick off the safety. So that woodcock will be "seed" for another season.

Deer hunting walking though an overgrown old field a buck jumped up about 10 yards away stored and stared at me. I shot the thing shook his head ran about 5 more yards stopped and stared at me again. I shot again and it did the same as before, now I was down to my last shot. I fired and it went down like a rock. As I was walking up to it it stood up wobbly and to my surprise one of his antlers was gone. I put another shell in my gun and from point blank shot it in the head. Upon inspection I noticed tines missing in his rack and a lead spot at the base of the missing antler. My shot that hit the base of the antler had knocked him out or at least down and my first 2 shots had clipped tines in his rack. Needless to say it was an interesting check in at the check station.
